Findings and Outcomes

Evaluation of the data collected in MCH PHLI finds that Fellows rated the program very highly and found it a successful experience as indicated by:

  • 99% program completion/Fellow retention rate
  • Average rating of program excellence over 4 cohorts: 4.9 out of 5
  • Statistically significant changes in 20 leadership competencies based on retrospective pre- and post-tests of Fellows in Cohorts 1 and 2 (see published results DOI: http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10995-014-1573-1)

Outcome analysis from MCH PHLI has also found:

  • Identification of areas of perceived need for training by leaders in MCH organizations, including the emergence of possible new leadership competency areas as documented by individual development goals set by Fellows
  • Documentation of engagement in self-identified training topics in order to assess areas of perceived need in MCH leaders
  • Support that distance-based training strategies can be highly effective and augment onsite, residential style training, particularly when they are highly customizable to the needs of the participant
  • In Cohort 1, 24 Fellows provided testimony of how their use of skills taught in MHC PHLI impacted others, giving evidence that 20,000 people were touched by the "ripple effect" of their participation
  • A total of 111 Fellows produced a Personal Leadership Project, which addressed real-world problems they face as MCH Leaders.
